German Language Credentials

International Credentials for Language Proficiency: German

International Credentials for Languges Services at Edmonton Public Schools is accredited as an examination centre for the following GERMAN language proficiency credentials:

  • Zentrale Deutschprüfung A2
  • Deutsches Sprachdiplom I - A2/B1
  • Deutsches Sprachdiplom II - B2/C1

Access to the Deutsches Sprachdiplom is provided through our work with the German Language Advisor at Alberta Education, Wieland Petermann: wieland.petermann@gov.ab.ca

Deutsches Sprachdiplom Credentials

  • Accreditation through the secretariat of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs, Government of Germany.
  • Exams are developed and monitored by the Central Agency for Schools Abroad, Government of Germany.
  • Credentials are offered in more than 50 countries at more than 430 schools. There are approximately 16,000 successful candidates each year.

What levels can be challenged?

Zentrale Deutschprüfung A2

  • Can communicate in simple and routine tasks and exchange information on familiar and routine matters.
  • Receive certification from the German Consulate.

Who is the Zentrale Deutschprüfung A2 examination for?

Grade 12 students taking German Language and Culture courses and German Bilingual Program. Grade 6 students can earn the A2 credential.

Deutsches Sprachdiplom I - A2/B1

  • Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc.
  • Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst traveling in an area where the language is spoken.
  • Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest
  • Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

Who is the Sprachdiplom I  A2/B1 examination for?

German Bilingual students who have had 9 years of study in the Bilingual Program context challenge the B1 level. This is the linguistic qualification for enrolment in a Studienkolleg in Germany.

Deutsches Sprachdiplom II - B2/C1

  • Can express ideas fluently and spontaneously
  • Can use a large vocabulary and choose the appropriate expression to introduce their comments
  • Can produce clear, well-structured discourse without hesitation and show controlled use of structures

Who is the Sprachdiplom II  B2/C1 examination for?

With this certification, German Bilingual program grade 12 students can qualify for 4 years paid tuition at designated German universities. This exam is mainly directed towards students who would like to prepare themselves for further study, or for people in or seeking employment who would like to enhance their CVs by including a language certificate.

What is on the Deutsches Sprachdiplom exams?

4 parts: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, oral communication and written communication.
Tasks include multiple choice, matching exercises, producing written text, presenting and dialogue.

Deutsches Sprachdiplom Exam Dates 2011-2012

All exams take place in EPSB schools

Deutsches Sprachdiplom II (DSD II) B2/C1 will be administered to grade 12 students at Strathcona High School in December/January 2012

Deutsches Sprachdiplom 1 (DSD I) A2/B1 will be administered to grade 9 students at Allendale Junior High School in March/April 2012

 

Zentrale Deutschprüfung (ZDP) A2 will be administered to grade 6 students at Forest Heights, Rideau Park and Rio Terrace Schools in April 2012

 

Registration Fees:

No charge for EPSB students registered in German language programs or courses.
