DELF

International Credentials for FRENCH Language Proficiency

Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF)/ Diplôme approfondi de langue française (DALF)

  • Are offered in 1025 examination centres throughout 161 countries.
  • Edmonton Public Schools is the first school district in Canada to be approved as an official examination centre for these internationally recognized diplomas.
  • Candidates receive a rating on the scale of language proficiency of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages.
  • DELF scolaire is a French language proficiency exam that is suitable for students studying French in schools
  • Exams are offered in schools in late fall and in April each year.
  • External candidates can take DELF/DALF exams at theCentre for Education in Edmonton.

What levels can be challenged?

DELF A1

recognizes basic knowledge targeting the most basic level at which a language is used. The candidate can interact in a simple way: he/she can speak about him/herself and his/her immediate environment.

DELF A2

recognizes the linguistic competency of a basic user. The candidate can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring the most common polite phrases and exchanges of information.

DELF B1

can maintain interaction; he/she can understand and maintain a discussion and give his/her opinion. He/she is capable of dealing with situations likely to arise in daily life.

DELF B2

has a degree of independence that allows him/her to construct arguments to defend his/her opinion, explain his/her viewpoint and negotiate. At this level, the candidate has a degree of fluency and spontaneity in regular interactions and is capable of correcting his/her own mistakes. Certification at the B2 level can be used to qualify for entrance into French speaking educational institutions.

DELF SCOLAIRE

All students who are interested in participating in the DELF scolaire and are not in Edmonton Public Schools will be required to pay the test prices indicated in the DELF Tous Public (see above).

The following students, enrolled in Edmonton Public Schools are eligible to participate in the DELF Scolaire exam at no cost:

  • Grade 12 FLA 30 students to take the B2 level (or higher) exam
  •  French 30-9Y, French 30 9-Y IB and French 31 students to take a B1 level (or higher) exam

District students register with their French teachers in schools for 2010/2011testing:
Complete and email the  DELF scolaire registration form  to rosario.vasquez@epsb.ca

External candidates and members of the general public for 2010/2011 testing:
Complete and email the  DELF registration Tous Public form to rosario.vasquez@epsb.ca
